It was an early graduation that showed love, support and pride for RWJ Rahway Emergency Department Nurse Christine Meo (standing second right). Ms. Meo is to graduate Monmouth University with an advanced degree in May but her colleagues and co-workers arranged an early graduation March 9 so she could share the special moment with her father and mother, former RWJ Rahway nurse Marilyn Meo, who is gravely ill.
Christine is to receive her Master’s of Science Nursing from the Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies on May 11. She pursued her MSN in the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner track while working full time and helping care for her mother. Bestowing the honors and sharing the love were (left to right) Director of the MSN program Dr. Rose Knapp, DNP, RN, APN-C; Dean of Nursing Dr. Janet Mahoney, Ph.D., RN, APN-C, NEA-BC, and Assistant Professor Dr. Cheryl Leiningen, DNP, RN, APN-C .
Professor Leiningen told a room crowded with RWJ Rahway ED nurses, doctors, paramedics and managers that Christine has excellent skills, is great with patients, is committed and hard working. She said she will be a great Nurse Practitioner.
After the ceremony, Dean Mahoney remarked that “Christine has a supportive family, both immediate and extended. It was an honor to be there. ”
Congratulations to Our STARS!

You can’t spell nutrition without nut! The best nuts for your diet are almonds and pistachios because they’re full of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and fiber that will help you feel full. And for those with allergies, grab a handful of sunflower or pumpkin seeds instead!
We all feel a little groggy after Daylight Savings. To avoid that feeling, try going to bed 15 minutes earlier and keep regular sleeping hours the week leading up to DST.

Ash Wednesday was observed in the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Rahway chapel, as well as on the hospital floors as Father Luigi Hargain traveled throughout the hospital administering ashes to staff, patients, families, and physicians. More than 350 people received ashes. Father Luigi noted that several people told him they wanted ashes though they were not Catholic. He explained that in many religions, ashes are a powerful symbol of impermanence and mortality. Pictured is the OR’s Paula D’Amico-Yequi receiving her ashes by Father Luigi.
